Monster wedge tornado from close range in western Kansas, May 22, 2016!
Close-range video of wedge tornado developing rapidly just a few miles west of Friend, Kansas on muddy, nearly impassable grid of farm roads. Time is around 8:10 pm when the tornado first forms. I thought the tornado would move distinctly to the NNW as the earlier circulations had with this cyclic supercell, but this tornado had a mind of its own, and I had to reverse out of the path of the rain-wrapped wedge. Rather than roping out, this large tornado maintained its massive diameter while spinning down in the field just to my west. This was part of my coverage or Accuweather.
